Advice to Mom's the second time around....
Don't silence the first born when the second is sleeping. I hated being such a shush-er of my spirited/loud/rambunctious little three year old. I felt like the minute Edie was asleep I followed Grace around the house shush-ing her every move. Not cool. Since then I've witnessed other families pretty much conduct marching bands down the hallway when a baby is sleeping - and the baby continues to sleep even with all that racket!
Our house is much noisier now....

Mine slept through the demolition of the fire escape stair case (mostly concrete) outside her window. Jack hammers were her lullaby. Jacksh*t would wake up that kid back then. Now a butterfly sneezes three provinces over and she's saying "what's that?" two seconds later. Kids.
Someone told me that I shouldn't ever leave the house completely quiet during naps--and that was with my first. I used to vacuum under his crib and he'd never move. The second could have slept through anything at all, and did--storms, loud 2 year olds, chattering company, and barking dogs.
Excellent advice!
I agree. Shushing is pointless. Babies can learn to sleep through anything.
I totally agree! And that's why when it's time to go off to college, you want the first borns being matched up with a second born! Or, better yet, a third!
