What's worse???

The other day I was in the bathroom, putting on my face and such. I had my tunes blasting away. At this particular moment, Sex and Violence by the Exploited was on. When Grace came round the corner, I scrambled to skip the song, not wanting her to hear it. I was kind of upset with myself for playing it when the kids were around. I've certainly censored what I listen to when with the girls - some themes are just way too mature for them and I don't feel ready to explain certain lyrics to them just yet. The minivan is primarly a Clash, Ramones and Blondie ride. Sometimes Social Distortion when I'm feeling a little saucy.

I got to thinking though, is this:

really any worse than this?:

I think the latter is so manipulative and sneaky...it drives me nuts that this music is marketed towards kids.

Give the Exploited a listen - lyrics aside, it's a catchy, catchy tune!

I find the Britney crap way more offensive.

Hell, the Exploited song doesn't seem to be pro or con on the subject and the simple lyrics let the listener think about the issue for themselves. Sure is great to crank up and sing out loud!!!

I do agree that it would be difficult to explain to the kids.

Rock on girl!!!!

I say if they can understand the nuances in song lyrics they’re old enough to hear them and if they can’t understand the nuances in song lyrics then it doesn’t matter if they hear them.

Oh baby baby...

We explain we don't censor. But it's not like I'm playing NIN's Closer in the car either. Honestly, I think the Britney's more offensive.

For some reason I can only see the first video. But you're talking to someone whose children know all the words to Spirit of the West's "Home for a Rest". Yah, there's a sweet picture, my little girls belting out a song about drunken debauchery in London.

Awesome - I wanna party with you cowgirl!
When I was slightly younger, and had a few less kids, I played in a punk band and we covered 'sex and violence' - fun as hell.
And I play the clash, ramones, specials, faith no more even GnR for them. They understand that the words are not bad words, but not appropriate for cute little girls to say...
