I read certain blogs faithfully. They are bookmarked as my favourite, I tend to visit them daily to see if they have been updated, and sometimes comment (not my strength). There are about 10 of these blogs – I rarely stray. I will continue to remain faithful to them, but I would like to add a few more to my list.

I have two questions for you – if blogs began to operate on a cost-recovery basis, would you pay to read? And if so, which blogs would you shell out to continue reading?

  1. Hmm. Interesting. I have a list of fave blogs too, but I highly doubt that i'd pay to read them.

Part of the problem is that blogs have always been free, so if a blog suddenly went to a subscription model that would be a huge turn off.

I would love to hear your list of fave blogs!

That being said there are a couple of larger websites I might be convinced to shell out for:

    metafilter.com
    cbc.ca
Flickr (wait, I shell out for that one already!)

    :)

  2. I only follow a couple blogs but there is no way I would pay to follow a blog. I won't even shell out the cash for a cell phone!!!

  3. I'm not being facetious when I say I would pay to read you. And Jess at drowninginkids.com, and Emily at captainhambone.typepad.com.

  4. Hmmm... very few blogs that I'd pay to read. I do have faves and ones that keep me guessing. But none that I pay to read...

  5. andrea - when i have a bit more time i'll link to my fave blogs
rob - yeah, i have a cell phone, but it's a rare day when i actually remember to charge it/turn it on. are you still blogging about your house?
chantal - thanks man! that means a lot coming from the lady who inspired me to blog in the first place!
jen - nice. i'll have to check those out.
nat - i know, i don't know if i'd pay to read. in fact, i'd probably get a lot more done if i did have to pay, because it would limit my internet time!

  6. Much as I love all my fave blogs, I wouldn't pay to read. I'd just make sure we kept on going out for lunch every once in a while and soak up all the humour and stories in person.

I wouldn't pay to read blogs either - that's sort of like asking you pay for friends.

  8. I wouldn't pay to read blogs either. But there are a few bloggers whose books I would buy if they were to write them.

  10. I'd consider paying for some of my favourite blogs. I'm a total magazine junkie, and I see reading a blog as something close to subscribing to a magazine. If a blog subscription was something like $1 a month, I could easily see myself setting aside $25 a month to subscribe to my favourite bloggers.

Are you looking for suggestions for yourself? I think you would like Mammmy P -- she's a displaced Canadian now living in England. She's funny and she loves music and goes to some awesome concerts - plus her take on Canada versus England is cool and funky.
